Wales DTC Director elected as Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences

The Academy of Social Sciences announced on Friday that it has conferred the award of Fellow on Wales DTC director David James and other leading social scientists. David James, who is also a Professor in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, is recognised in the Academy’s announcement as “an exceptional educational theorist with particular interests in learning cultures and school choice, identity and social class.”

The award is conferred on those who have a wide range of expertise in the social sciences, including management, sociology, psychology, politics, geography and law. These Fellows have made a substantial contribution to wider social science in a variety of contexts, including in higher education, government and learned societies.

The Chief Executive of the ESRC Jane Elliot was also among the recipients, noted by the Academy as “an eminent quantitative sociologist, with a particular interest in longitudinal studies”.

David James said “I’m delighted to get this news, and I’m grateful to the British Educational Research Association for nominating me.”
