Friday 17th May 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM and Saturday 18th May 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.\nPresenters\n\n Dr Sara Delamont\, Cardiff School of Social Sci ences\n\nCourse Content and Aims\nStudents will ideally be in Years 3 and 4 of their PhD programme and have completed their data collection\, i.e. t hey will be ready to plan\, and begin your their publishing ‘career’.   The focus is on understanding the processes of reviewing and refereeing publications and submissions of others and on preparing their own work fo r submission to journals and book publishers.\n\nStudents will learn about the refereeing processes that lie ‘behind’ the peer reviewed journal and the published book\, by engaging in the actual tasks of refereeing pap ers and book proposals.  Students will also learn how to approach journal s to solicit offers of book reviews and write book reviews\, how to resear ch journals and write properly tailored submissions\; and how to research book publishers and prepare a book proposal that will be treated seriously .\n\nTo participate in these sessions\, students will need to have conduct ed a piece of independent research\, e.g. an ‘M’ thesis.  Preparatory work is required for these sessions\, and students will receive individua l feedback by email afterwards.. At the end of the multi-part course stude nts will have reviewed a book\, refereed an article and a book proposal\, and have a template for an article and a monograph proposal about their ow n work.\nCost\n\n Wales DTC Postgraduate Research students\, i.e. social s cience students registered at Aberystwyth\, Bangor\, Cardiff or Swansea Un iversities: free of charge\n Postgraduate Social Science Research studen ts registered at a UK HEI: £60.00\n\nRegistration fees cover lunch and re freshment breaks but do not cover travel\, subsistence or accommodation co sts.\nDeadline for Bookings\nThursday 9th May.  This workshop is aimed at DTC and ESRC-funded research students at Aberystwyth\, Bangor\, Cardiff a nd Swansea who will have priority for places but others are welcome to att end\, space permitting.
