This stipend of £3,000 per year (plus additional Research Training Support Grant of £250) is only available to students funded by the ESRC Wales DTP starting in 2016 or earlier. Only students who will be in the first or second year of the PhD are eligible to apply for the next academic year.
It is intended to encourage training in advanced quantitative methods and their application in PhD research and beyond. This is expected to be at a level over and above the basic generic and subject specific methods requirements.
How to apply for an AQM stipend
For applications for 2017/18, please download and complete the AQM Stipend Application Form and return to us by Friday 23 June 2017.
Please note that in order to be eligible for the AQM stipend you must be funded by the ESRC Wales DTP and be in Year 1 or Year 2 of your PhD during the 2017/18 academic year. It will not be paid during the master’s programme, and new applications from Year 3 students will not be considered.
The procedure for selection of AQM studentships
An AQM subgroup of the Wales DTP Management Group will consider all applications for the AQM stipend and will decide which applications are eligible for AQM and generate a provisional ranking of those which are eligible on the basis of their methodological strength. This advisory ranking is used by the Wales DTC Management Group who will decide on the allocation of awards.
Students in receipt of the AQM stipend will be required to submit an annual report form at the end of years 1 and 2 to the AQM subgroup. The report will comprise three sections: research undertaken (and planned), training undertaken (and planned) and outputs. The AQM subgroup will review the annual report to confirm that the student/research still meets the criteria for AQM and will provide recommendations to the Wales DTP Management Group regarding continuation of the stipend.
