Student Reps

WGSSS student reps are a vital conduit for comments/ideas from fellow WGSSS funded students across the academic schools and pathways. They play a crucial role in conveying comments and proposals in order to help enhance research training and the overall PhD student experience.

The Role of the Student Rep

  • To complete project-based work to shape and develop the WGSSS.
  • To involve other WGSSS students in providing feedback, opinion and ideas.
  • To attend and participate in online termly meetings with the WGSSS e-learning officer.
  • To attend an annual meeting with the WGSSS Director.

Please watch the below video, created by Mike Hackman, WGSSS e-learning officer, for  information about the role Student Reps can play in promoting and engaging with projects which support the PhD experience.

A lead rep will be nominated by the student rep cohort, the lead rep will sit on the WGSSS management group.

The role of student rep is for a 12 month term. This means that new students have the chance to get involved each year. However, reps may seek to be re-nominated for a second term.

Student reps should not be asked to become involved with other students’ personal problems, academic difficulties or individual disputes.

Selection

The annual call for reps is sent out through the website, newsletter and other forms of communication. WGSSS students in all stages of their studies are welcome to apply.

If you would like to apply for our vacant posts, please submit your application to enquiries@walesdtp.ac.uk. Nominees are asked to outline, briefly, why they would make a good student rep and to enlist the support of 1-2 fellow WGSSS funded students for their nomination.

One student rep will be selected for each institution (two for Cardiff University). Where there are more nominations than positions, there will be a ballot of fellow students who will be asked to indicate a preference.
