This study examines police and public communications on social media through the utilisation of big social data, survey data, and interview data. The methods used in this study are mixed but will lean towards being more quantitative than qualitative. The research is interdisciplinary in scope and employs methods from both computer science and social science. The principal aim of this study is to understand how and why the police and the public are using social media to engage and interact with each other. While also, the study aims to advance knowledge regarding the novel methods used to further understand complex contemporary social phenomena through big social data.
