According to the Welsh Health Survey (2015), 63% of people living in the most deprived areas of Wales are overweight/obese, predisposing this population to developing associated health issues including Type 2 diabetes.

Studies have shown that food variety can influence food intake, both in terms of having different foods across a meal as well as different flavours and textures within foods.

This research will assess how food variety and different aspects of eating relate to overconsumption and weight gain. We also intend to explore how the unhelpful effects of variety may be combatted in the ‘everyday eating’ environment.
