My intention is to delve deeply into the working world of the festival rigger, by contextualising the value there is in the skills of tent riggers and other types of manual labour in the events industry, where an oral tradition of skills and knowledge are rarely put to paper.
By using historical context in my research, of the social and cultural within this fluid working world, I intend to provide a broader understanding of what is a little researched area of work.
Qualitative study will be the dominant driving force in data collection, approaching this research area in as adaptive a manner as the work of this study requires.
The relevance I hope to glean from my research is to highlight the lack of representation for riggers that is often mis-categorised. Also to explore the socio-economic factors which may influence the working and lifestyle choices of the people in this profession.
